Don't put the restrictor gate back on yet! If the rotary piece with the pins falls out, just put it back into the correct position. To do this, pull on the pins and rotate the central piece that holds them counterclockwise until they snap into the 4-way position (see photo above). Since the 3rd-gen Pac-Man cabinets only use 4-directional inputs, we need to change the Sanwa restrictor gate from 8-way to 4-way. You have to pinch two of the tabs at a time to get them off - it's a bit tricky but doable. Remove the plastic restrictor gate from the Sanwa stick.

Carefully cut the zip tie holding the wires together.ħ. Unplug the two 4-pin connectors for the stock stick from the control interface board.Ħ. The stock stick is likely glued onto the control panel, so you'll want to use a thin flat-head screwdriver to pry it up after removing the screws.ĥ. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove the four screws holding the stock joystick onto the control panel. You can use a flat-head screwdriver to hold the stick in place if needed. Remove the stock control panel and open it up.
